Organic Bath Towels

It makes a lot of sense to purchase organic bath towels. People are becoming more and more concerned with pesticides and insecticides in their food, but many people do not realize in what staggering quantities pesticides are being sprayed on cotton. It is a fact that approximately 25% of the world's pesticides are used on cotton plants, although cotton only accounts for about 3% of the agricultural output.

Organic bath towels are one way to ensure that the pesticides sprayed on the cotton plants do not wind up on you. Pesticides are linked to a great many health conditions such as asthma and cancer. When you are buying a product such as clothing or a bath towel that will be in direct contact with your skin, it is all that much more important to use only 100% certified organic cotton. If more people were aware how much pesticides were used on cotton plants, there would be more of a demand for organic cotton fabrics such as those used in bath towels. Consider how many cotton fabrics we use, and you can see that buying organic bath towels is just a start.

But it is a great move, and in fact there are many organic bath towels available in most every color and style. You will not have to give up anything when buying organic bath towels. You should use the same criteria to select quality organic bath towels as you would if you were not getting organic towels. Gram weight and classification will help to determine the quality. A gram weight of 600 GSM (grams per square meter) is good. Then if you can find out about staple rating, you can use that as a gauge. For instance Egyptian cotton is rated as ELS (extra long staple) cotton. So is Pima cotton, which is grown in the United States.

But as long as your organic bath towels are rated as 100% organic cotton you will most certainly have a good quality bath towel. Bamboo is also an excellent material for bath towels, and if you can find 100% organic bamboo, which is often mixed with cotton, you will have a very fine organic bath towel that is extremely absorbent and plush.

The more you and I demand organic cotton in our bath towels and other cotton fabrics that we buy, the more the message will be sent to manufacturers that we do not want pesticides in our clothing, bed linens, bath towels and furniture. The amount of disease and sickness that is caused by pesticides is probably grossly underestimated, and the only real solution is to demand organic cotton products.
