Egyptian Cotton Bath Towels

Egyptian cotton is known as the most luxurious type of cotton produced today. This is not just a fashionable name that people believe is the most luxurious -- it really is luxurious because of the cotton itself. Egyptian cotton is exactly what it says -- cotton grown in Egypt. The humidity combined with the terrain and soil make for the perfect conditions to grow cotton, much as Cuba to cigars. The conditions were Egypt enable the cotton to grow long fibers, also known as staples. Egyptian cotton staples are generally from 1 3/8 to 2 1/4 inches long, giving it a classification of an ELS (extra long staple) cotton.

Towels are made in a terry style, which means that the fabric is in loops, and the fibrous loops of Egyptian cotton are exceptionally absorbent. Not only do they absorb water extraordinarily well to dry oneself, but they absorb dyes well which make for brilliant color. Egyptian cotton is used for many other purposes besides towels, and it is exceptional in those usages as well, but with towels the absorbency and plush factor is known as the very best.

There are some challengers to the throne of Egyptian cotton, most notably from Pima cotton, which was originally grown on the Pima Indian reservation in Arizona. You may be seeing a lot of it lately under the brand name Supima. This is also rated as an ELS cotton, and has billed itself as equal to Egyptian cotton. This is up for debate, but if you just opt for Egyptian cotton bath towels you'll never go wrong.

When buying Egyptian cotton bath towels, be sure that the label or the website advertising it states that it is 100% Egyptian cotton. Some lesser products will try to mislead with claims of "made with Egyptian cotton", or something to that effect.

Egyptian cotton bath towels are generally more expensive, but will be worth every cent as you will appreciate these super fluffy, ultra-soft, amazing towels. You'll notice that they have longer, more fibrous threads. Egyptian cotton bath tiles not only will look great in your bathroom, but they will feel great after your shower or bath, and unlike inferior products made with synthetics or low-grade cotton, they will last a very long time provided you take care of them properly. For maximum lifespan and keeping up the fluffy, super-soft feel, use low heat in your dryer. Using a gentle care detergent will also help keep them soft and fluffy.
